This is because the moving process can be quite tricky and if you want to minimise the stress and hassle of moving home, you should look to plan ahead.

Using this survival guide for moving home will give you a better chance of moving home with comfort and without too much stress or hassle.

4 weeks before you move
If you are keen to move on a certain date, it is best to make arrangements for this date. If you need time off from work, book it as early as you can and be sure to contact firms like energy providers and your telephone and broadband provider to minimise any delay when you move in. You should also look to create a list of what you are looking to take to your new home and what you can leave, sell or get rid of.

2-3 weeks before you move
At this stage you should be confirming how you are going to move your belongings from your current home to our new home. If you are looking to hire a removal company, this is the time to arrange your moving time with them. If you are looking to hire a van, you should start to look at pricing options and book early to ensure that it is taken care of.

Some people arrange insurance for moving home and if this is of interest, this is the stage you should arrange this. You should also look into arranging for boxes and suitable containers to use during your move at this point.

1-2 weeks before you move
If you have not already done so, it is vital that you are packing up your belongings and preparing for the move on this date. You should also look to take care of administrative duties such as informing banks and service providers of your new property while making changes to home insurance, driving licence or any other important issue that is linked to your home.

The day before you move
You should be all packed up, which makes this the day where you properly clean out your home, washing down all paintwork and surfaces while ensuring that your home is in good condition. You should also have items that you need for that night and the next day laid out so they don’t get packed away or mislaid in the confusion of moving home.

The day you move
This is when you pack up the last of the household items that you have been using and you should take meter readings for your own peace of mind. Once everything is loaded into the van, take a last check of the property to ensure that you haven’t left anything. If you need to drop off keys / pick up keys, this is the time to do so.

When you enter your new home, carry out a check of the meter readings and then start by unboxing the items that are important and needed first.
