WHAT IS A BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (BID)?

A Business Improvement District is a defined area in which a levy is charged on all business rate payers in addition to the business rates bill. This levy is used to develop projects which will benefit businesses in the local area, increase footfall and boost trade.

There is no limit on what projects or services can be provided through a Business Improvement District (BID). The only requirement is that it should be something that is in addition to services provided by local authorities and the police. Improvements may include, but are not limited to, extra safety/security, cleansing and environmental measures.

VISIT STAINES BID

Visit Staines BID is the trading name of Staines-upon-Thames Business Improvement District (BID) which is a not for profit, limited by guarantee company working on behalf of 300 businesses in the town centre.

We are delighted that our very own managing director Steven Harvey is chairman of the BID which business have just voted yes to renewing. The successful ballot means that the Visit Staines BID will remain in position until March 2027, with a projected £1.8 million of levy payers’ money being used to attract shoppers and visitors to the town centre over the next five years.

Steven comments “We are delighted with the strength of support shown by the result of this ballot. Businesses of all sizes have confirmed their confidence in Visit Staines BID and delivered us a strong remit to push ahead with our ambitious plans for the next five years. I would like to thank all 300 local businesses who form part of the BID and also the Visit Staines BID Board for their continued support and commitment to the town.
